Development of kittens
Kittens generally develop quite fast from about two weeks of age until about their seventh week. A litter of kittens at this time is often seen playing hunting or stalking games with each other. You will want to keep the camera very nearby during this period as sometimes the mother will come to show off hunting techniques for them to mimic and it can get quite funny.
As the kitten reaches about one month of age they may begin to want to eat solid foods. After breast feeding from the mother during this time, they will not primarily live on solid food for the first time. Some mother cats will scatter the kittens at around 3 months of age, while other mother cats will continue to watch over them until they are able to move around completely and independently.
How to line up the best pictures
You'll notice that kittens are much more social than cats and you'll often see them interacting with other animals like grasshoppers, insects and anything at all really. This makes for excellent shots to capture with your camera. Capture them when they do this as it doesn't happen muchlater on during your cats life.
When kittens spend time with their mother, brothers and sisters during their early life (from six to twelve weeks), this is important for the behavioral development of the kitten and also produces a much more filling cat personality.
Many owners of a mother cat will start to give away the kittens after six months or so, perhaps it's not a good idea to do so until after a certain age. A matter of fact, in some places it is illegal to give away kittens that are younger than the specified lawful limit. (Usually between 6 to 13 weeks).
