Painted cats

Many people are irritated and other people are downright awed after viewing an email that contains the pictures of your average household cats painted up with fancy designs and different colors. If you think about this for a minute you might think it's an easy idea to implement.

Imagine a cat just sitting there letting you paint it. Is there something wrong with this idea? Will this cat be mad? This article is dedicated to inform you all about this phenomena.

Some hard to find fake images of cats with paint on them.

Our Gallery

Inside our gallery we've got a section on painted cats for your viwing pleasure.

Is this kind of painting possible?

Yes, it's definitely possible to paint a cat. Many people have attempted to paint or hair dye cats the past without success. The cat hair grows quickly, shedding, and dye does not stay in. As for paint, don't even both as that definitely will not work at all and we don't recommend it as you'll probably end up poisoning your cat as they tend to lick their fur.

Further thinking on this question will cause questions to come to mind. What is the cat doing while someone is painting the cat? He's definitely not sitting there nicely and meowing happily. The cat will not let you paint him so please do not try.

Back to reality

We are happy to inform you that there is no need to be alarmed. The pictures that you've seen recently in an email or on the internet are fakes, yes that's right fake. The images were very cleverly edited with photo editing software like Photoshop or Paintshop.

Most, if not all of the images you have seen have come from a book labeled, "Why Paint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics" (Ten Speed Press, 2002), written by New Zealanders Burton Silver and Heather Busch, the same people responsible for the equally mind boggling "Why Cats Paint" (1994) and "Dancing with Cats (1999)".

So who's doing all of this?

In the past, in the media, the authors have been careful not to admit that the painted cat images were doctored by photo editing software. "We have never ever commented on the techniques used to create the painted cat images because that is not the point of our art", silver said in a 2002 newspaper interview. "In our minds we see our role is to encourage the community to initiate chatting and discussion amongst all readers and to provoke them to question their value systems." The author likes to speak very quiet and discreetly about any of these topics.

The earlier written book called "Why cats paint" is purportedly about real examinations of artworks that were created by real cats, Silver mentions in an interview with Chicago Sun-Times. "It's a fake. A cat is like its own person, with its own mind. You cannot force a cat to paint".

Anyone who knows cats well will attest to the fact that you will have trying to make a cat do things that are not cat-like, and that is what this joke is all about.
